My Indigo

From the heavy metal group: Within Temptation to a new era of soaring vocals and melodic inspiration, Sharon den Adel amazes with her new effort: My Indigo. My Indigo is the indie pop musical child of Ms. den Adel that came from the roots of personal strife and writing for her band which she fronts. While not my usual taste in music, Ms. den Adel contributes to a genre, that is usually closer to what is on the top 40, with an album that grabs the listeners and takes them on a ride of emotions. If you're looking for another Beyonce or Lady Gaga album don't look here.

Track Reviews

My Indigo: 4/5: My Indigo is a good indicator to what the rest of the album is going to be. It's a step away from what she does with Within Temptation.

Crash and Burns 5/5: This is by far one of my favorite songs off the album. Crash and Burn has a blues vibe that follows the song though to the last note. Den Adel's vocals are low a raw as she sings about a person not willing to raise themselves up out of a bad situation.

Out of the Darkness: 2/5: Out of the Darkness is the second single of the album. It also is the only song on the album that feels as though it could be on a Within Temptation album. That being said, I feel like this is one of the weakest songs on the album due to the fact that it doesn't feel as though it goes with the rest of the songs. While den Adel's vocals are as strong as ever but the song just doesn't have the same feel as the rest of the album.

Indian Summer: 5/5: Indian Summer is one of two songs that I could hear being played on the radio as I'm on the road. While not a single, this song fits with those long summer nights where you're dancing around a bonfire with a beer in your hand.

Black Velvet Sun: 4/5: While also having a deeper meaning it's fairly upbeat.

Where is My Love: 4/5: Where is My Love does what Out of the Darkness doesn't: it fits with the album and shows den Adel's vocal strengths outside of Within Temptation. Den Adel sings about a lover that doesn't seem to be feeling the relationship anymore and den Adel is trying to figure out why she's still in the relationship.

Someone Like You: 5/5: Someone like You isn't a cover song and it can stand on its own as a single. This is the other song that I could see being played on the radio. While slow it doesn't drone on, its hopeful and perfect for listening to lift your spirits.

Star Crossed Lovers: 4/5: Den Adel sings about magic and wanting to know the feelings that famed lovers have had but were later torn apart by something or another. Its fun and fits well with the other songs that this album has on it.

Lesson Learned: 5/5: Lesson Learned starts of with a melodic piano and den Adel's raw vocals. She sings about a problem that has happened and has placed a strain upon the relationship and learning the lesson of what happens when you let something divide you from your loved ones. Lesson Learned feels like the perfect closing to this album even though there is one more song on the album.

Safe and Sound: 3/5: Safe and Sound isn't a cover of the Taylor Swift song. Safe and Sound feels like its in the same vain as My Indigo about a mother's love for her child. It is also the longest song on the album. Safe and Sound closes the album on a hopeful and almost peaceful note.
